It is safe to say that the BRC carried out extensive consultation with suppliers and certification bodies before Issue 6 was published. One of the goals of the review was to push boundaries and to continue to strive for improvements in food safety and hygiene standards across the industry.

It is understood that training, capital and time investment may be required by companies (and indeed by Certification Bodies) but ultimately the benefits of BRC certification very much outweight the negative aspects. Interpretations of the Standards content is also becoming more widely available, for example metal detection issues, which should help to ameliorate certain concerns regarding the Issue content.
