Documentation FAQ's
How will a HACCP help me?
HACCP documentation that is fully up to date and accurately reflects your operation will firstly help you to produce safe food and to achieve legal compliance. It will also provide your staff with a reference document when they have a query regarding food safety and it will act as a training aid. Furthermore, it will be a strong influencing factor in the determination of your Scores on the Doors rating from your EHO.
I am only a small business employing only one member of staff. Do I still need a HACCP?
Yes you do. There are no size exemptions for businesses and therefore you will need to make sure that you can provide such documentation to your EHO.
Why do i need a documented HACCP?
Current food hygiene legislation requires that all food businesses, no matter how big or small have a documented food safety management system which is based upon the principles of HACCP. In essence this means that you need to document all of the procedures that you follow to ensure that food in your business is maintained in a safe condition starting from when you buy your raw materials to when it is provided to your customers.
What are the legal requirements for H&S documentation?
The Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 requires that employers with over 5 members of staff have a written health & safety policy.
