Beware the trap door
There have been an increasing number of incidents across England associated with cellar hatches and trap doors in commercial premises. Recently a man died after falling into an unattended cellar hatch inside a pub; a delivery man broke his back from falling down a hatch; a five year old boy fell from a pushchair onto the street into a cellar and a customer of a food business injured their leg upon falling into an obscured hatch.
Each case resulted in the Borough prosecuting the businesses, who each received substantial fines.
All of the above accidents could of been avoided. To help organisations make sure that their cellar hatches/trap doors do not cause accidents, STS and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have launched a half day cellar hatch safety course.
This course covers legal responsibilities, staff training, hazards associated with hatches, risk assessment, control measures and protecting staff and customers.
This bite size, low cost course is running in london on 9th October - to book places please contact Marisa on 01252 728300 mwessels@sts-solutions.co.uk The course is also available in house at your premises.
