The price of a summer tan

The Health and Safety Exceutive has recently changed its advice on sunbeds and is now urging those under 18 to avoid them all together. Coin operated tanning salons should also be supervised by trained staff.

Cancer research UK has gone one step futher and suggested that more regulation is needed to prevent young people and those most at risk being exposed to a potential carcinogen. The charity said the 90 per cent of people in the UK believed under 18s should be banned from using sunbeds.
sarah Woolnough the charitys head of policy said there was support for proper regulation. "These results show the overwhelming support from the public for laws to be introduced to ensure that sunbeds are properly regualted and that people are aware of the dangers of using them", she said. "Were calling for England, Northern Island and Wales to follow in the footsteps of Scotland and stop under 18s from using sunbeds, close salons that arent supervised by trained staff an ensure information about the risks is given to all customers."
